The cottage was, for many years, the property of the Stadler family, and is a typical example of the type of vernacular building found on the coastal areas of the Western Cape. It retains its original plain side gables and oven, although it has also undergone, over the years, a number of periodic additions. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 31 August 1973.Ons Huisie, which directly translates to “Our Small Home”, is an internationally recognised Heritage Site in Bloubergstrand now accommodating a world renowned and recognised traditional Restaurant.
